At Hearts of Humanity, Community Development Corporation, we educate and empower Pottstown community members to grow delicious, sustainable, organic gardens—even in the tiniest of spaces.
We started this year with creative energy, painting a vibrant tapestry in town that sparked excitement for edible gardens—even in Winter. We believe in the power of nature and building a meaningful relationship with it. From excursions to hands-on workshops, we create opportunities for all ages to experience the joy of growing.
In collaboration with Pottstown Area Economic Development, we’re working to beautify our neighborhoods with edible gardens—improving the quality of life for residents, young and old.
We’re incredibly thankful for support from the Pottstown Community Voices Grant, which has helped us bring more youth into the urban agriculture movement. Our visit to Longwood Gardens opened young eyes to the wonder of Winter’s beauty, with strolls through the Topiary Garden, Birds Eye Lookout, and Chase’s whimsical toy train.
Thanks to volunteers from LOWES, our garden at Bright Hope has been refurbished and is ready for upcoming workshops. We’re also engaging seniors at Jefferson School Apartments with meaningful gardening activities that spark joy and connection.
January’s MLK Day community event was a resounding success, bringing together residents, businesses, council members, and Mayor Henrick to install inspiring symbols of hope and determination into planters along High Street. This Winter Planter Project kept our business district both vibrant and meaningful through the season.
In April, we welcomed Spring with the Ornamental Pear Blossom Festival, where Beech Street’s white canopy reminded us of nature’s magic. We’re excited to keep that energy going all year long with fun, festive, and inclusive community events.
We couldn’t do this without your support. Huge thanks to the Pottstown Area Health and Wellness Foundation, our sister nonprofits, supportive community members, SCORE, TCN, Hobart’s Run, The Hill School students, and our amazing volunteers.
